Prenatal massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue.

This condition is something most people fear in a very real context.  A condition that often causes awfully unreliable pain that can range from niggling at times to excruciating pain that radiates across the lower spine and sometimes down the leg and into the calf. 

The link between emotional and physical trauma is well documented.  But how does the body actually process trauma and what are the reasons for having a physical reaction to an emotional incident?  Is there a physical hangover after emotional trauma?  And which one should be worked on first?  There is no separating of the two and both aspects of the equation need to be addressed to bring about resolution of the event.  

It happens so quickly.  It happens when you are doing the most pedestrian movement or simply reaching to pick up a pencil.  But when it happens - 'oh lord have mercy'!  A spasm in the back can be earth shattering and leave you sobbing on the couch as you are stuck, immobilised, face down with your derrière stuck up 'in the air', clutching at your mobile to call someone to come to your aid. 

Remembering your heroes of help when you have reached a goal is really important.  Its also important to recognise when people who offer this help are really the saviours that you need them to be.  Sacrificing a little pride and humility for a better end result can make you very grateful.  And sane!

Do you ever stop?  Do you ever take the time out to just indulge and enjoy a few precious moments of quiet contemplation? Or are you too concerned with the ‘to do’ list to consider any interruption to the forward momentum you create every morning?

 

You may be doing yourself a disservice?  Having the time to stop and to indulge in what is settling and contemplative is proven to be a way to open up pathways and ideas and avenues that allow you to activate alternative neurological processes as well as utilising the hidden pathways that you may have forgotten or more likely supressed.

If you are interested in training and in making the most out of your nutrition, at one point or another you are going to investigate the options of 'supplementation'.  For many of the guys out there it's all about 'protein, protein, protein'.  Getting enough of it, getting it in vast quantities and the right type of it to build that all important lean muscle mass.  But are these tubs of powdery pump worth the investment?  Do they achieve the lauded nutrition goals?  And perhaps most importantly, are they doing us damage in the long term? It's a huge realm of investigation and can sometimes leave you feeling inundated with conflicting information and discussions.

Is there truly a 'superfood'?  Is there one thing that we all should be ingesting in vast quantities to make us super well and energetic?  We are complex beings with complex needs and every person has their own unique metabolism, genetic makeup and challenges in nutrition and diet.  So does the Superfood really exist or is it a marketing myth and good advertising from industry moguls?

A while back I came across a yoga article talking about Yoga not being 'masculine' and that there was an 'anti-alpha-male' attitude to yoga in general.   I believe the author hadn't really done their research or been to many yoga studios in the wider geography of the global fitness realm, but it did raise a few interesting points for me as to the usefulness of types of exercise and what we sometimes view as 'not being appropriate' for us.

Welcome to the new year!  What a year it is already shaping up to be!  I had a wonderful, restful, indulgent and rejuvenating few weeks off.  It was a wonderful break with family over Christmas and then a very easy and relaxed New Years welcome.

So it started after the Euro trip.  After my first foray into yoga in many many months, I was so content with my small amount of practice in Amsterdam and Antwerp, that I felt that I had to come back and get this practice happening again.  I sued to be such a devotee, but laziness and the obsessions with work led me to letting go of the practice.    Here I write about my 21 days and the attempt at a continuous daily practice.

Sports performance and fasting?  Is it a good promotion or is it just toying with the plan?   From the reading that I have done, it would seem that these are two very distinct and separate approaches to the fasting question.   Usually fasting would be accompanied with a restful period where activity was downgraded in order to maximise the benefits of reduced caloric intake and to allow the 'cleansing' or 'detoxing' period to occur without the need for cellular regeneration.
